Full time – joint role between the Lichfield Cathedral School and Lichfield Cathedral

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and inspirational person to join our strong and dedicated team, working in the beautiful and historic surroundings of the Cathedral Close. The successful candidate will teach Music, up to and including A Level, along with having the ability to teacher Music Technology. The other aspect to the role will be the Cathedral Assistant Musician which will come under the Cathedral. This element involves working closely with the Music team at the Cathedral, to develop our younger choristers, providing music theory and singing technique so that they get used to working at a pace of the more experienced choristers.
Teacher of Music
The School Music Department is a very successful department within the school, teaching small classes and gaining excellent results at GCSE and A Level, for pupils of all abilities. We have recently opened a new building, dedicated to Music, with excellent facilities, including a recording studio.
We have high expectations of our students and teach the subjects in a lively and stimulating way that encourages them to learn. A wide variety of approaches and teaching methods are used to develop students’ key skills and the Department also prepares candidates for applications to competitive universities. As a teacher you will join a thriving team who teach across the age and ability range throughout the school. Suitable candidates will have excellent academic qualifications and an innovative teaching style.
Your passion for your subject will be clear to the students and you will have an ability to build, develop and maintain strong and positive relationships with all students, parents and colleagues alike. As part of a successful department, you will need to have a passion for teaching first class lessons and be prepared to contribute to the wider life of the school.

Assistance will be given to create a modular training plan so that these young trainee choristers are aware of the areas that need developing as they progress through the choir.
The is role would suit someone who has experience of working with singers in a religious setting, and requires someone with good keyboard skills. You will attend the rehearsals before school in order to deliver this training.
There is also the opportunity to become further involved with life at the Cathedral, in the position of Tenor Lay Vicar Choral (separate details can be obtained about this role through the Cathedral).
